Excellence in Medical Education
Throughout the last century Washington University School of Medicine has maintained a long tradition of providing the highest caliber training to internists in the early stages of their careers either as research oriented physician-scientists, clinical oriented researchers or practicing internists.
Our goal is to prepare young doctors to be leaders in both the national and international community. Through our six residency pathways, residents will be able to pursue their medical interests and plan for their future careers. The pathways include: Categorical Track, Preliminary Year, Oliver Langenberg Physician Scientist Training Pathway, Primary Care Track, Global Health Scholars and Teaching Physician.
We firmly believe that our future interns will find an opportunity to excel as a leader in their area of interest at Washington University School of Medicine!
A 100-year History of Medical Firsts
We are extremely proud of the many medical firsts our health care professionals have achieved. With over 19 Nobel Laureates associated with Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine, we have had some of the brightest medical minds pass through our halls. Our Department of Medicine accounts for approximately 30 percent of the University’s research enterprise and is currently ranked 6th in the nation among internal medicine departments receiving research funding.
The dedication of our faculty to be on the forefront of medical innovation and research translates into the continued prominence of WUSM. The Department of Medicine ran 963 clinical trials and research studies in FY 15, generating more than $25 million. In 2006, we established the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences, which serves as the intellectual and physical home for clinical and translational research, clinical research training and career development.
