When you finish residency at Wash U:
You will have seen it all.

  • Exposure to a unique mix of tertiary care and primary care; only major referral medical center in 200+ mile radius.
  • Q8 overnight call during inpatient medicine rotations during intern year.  This amounts to 12-15 total for your entire intern year.
  • Q3 overnight in the ICU call, with ability to rotate through 19-bed and 10-bed MICUs and 15-bed CCU.
  • Only 4-6 weeks of Night Float per year, broken up into 2 week blocks.
  • Inpatient rotations at the VA during your intern and JAR years; only one overnight call per month.
  • Elective time escalates from 6 weeks intern year to approximately 6 months during SAR year.

You will have amassed a unique and outstanding CV.

  • Participation in Mentors in Medicine Program which pairs you with a mentor in subspecialty of your choosing; ability to obtain $5000-$9000 in grant funding for research as early as intern year.
  • Option of 3 months of protected research time (with only continuity clinic responsibilities) during JAR or SAR year through C-STAR program and formal course work in biostatics, epidemiology and clinical studies design.
  • Opportunities to edit and author chapters in 14-book Washington Manual series.
  • Flexibility to plan international away rotations as early as JAR year; established programs in Bhutan and Eritrea.
